We provide a new independent Community Advocacy service from April 2014 to support vulnerable people to be more independent and be better able to make informed decisions about their lives and speak up for themselves. The aim of the Community Advocacy service is for advocates to empower clients to develop independence and self advocacy skills at a manageable pace, so that their need for advocacy is reduced over time.Community Advocacy is open to any vulnerable person aged 18 or over who lives in Newcastle and meets at least 3 of the following criteria:

  • requires support making their views known
  • is facing a major life change
  • has inappropriate support, or lacks support from services or family
  • has no-one independent with their interests at heart
  • has a poor quality of life which is adversely affected by the above factors

People who might benefit from this service include:

  • people with physical disabilities
  • people with learning disabilities
  • older people
