Voluntary Youth Sector Forum

A forum for voluntary organisations and community groups working with children and young people aged 8-25 in Newcastle upon Tyne.  Members include small groups and branches of national charities.

What does the Forum do?

Newcastle Voluntary Youth Sector Forum:

  • acts as a voluntary sector voice to policy and planning work

  • sends representatives to a variety of partnerships, boards and multi-agency working groups in the local authority and Connexions

  • holds occasional workshops or training on youth work practice

  • acts as an information exchange for ideas and funding information

  • takes part in regular liaison with Newcastle City Council Play & Youth Services

Most of the work takes place through four forum meetings a year.  There are also occasional seminars on youth worker practice for face-to-face workers in the voluntary sector and local authority.

For details of meetings and other events, click here.

Who runs the Forum?

There is a steering group made up of two Co-Chairs, others elected by Forum members, and Forum reps who attend other bodies for the Forum.  NCVS arranges some of the meetings and sends out the mailings.  The Play & Youth Voluntary Sector Liaison Officer produces a newsletter, Starlight, and arranges the seminars.

Who can join?

Free full membership is open to Newcastle voluntary organisations and community groups, providing activities in Newcastle for children and young people aged 8-25, or with an interest in youth services.  There are also non-voting lists.
