Local

info4local.gov.uk - a one-stop portal for local authorities and others to get quick and easy access to information they need on the web sites of central government departments, agencies and public bodies.

Newcastle City Council - the website of Newcastle City Council.

 

Regional

Government Office North East - responsible for delivering Government policy and promoting sustainable economic development in the North East.

North East Assembly - the regional cross-sectoral voice.

One NorthEast - the regional development agency.

 

National

Audit Commission - appoints auditors to all local authorities and NHS bodies in England and Wales.

Cabinet Office - supports the Prime Minister in ensuring delivery of the Government's strategy.

Cabinet Office Strategy Unit - provides the Prime Minister and Government departments with a capacity to analyse major policy issues and design strategic solutions.

Central Office of Information (CIO) - the Government's central communications service which works in partnership with Government departments and agencies to produce information campaigns.

Charity Commission for England and Wales - established by law as the regulator and registrar for charities in England and Wales.

Communities and Local Government - aims to promote community cohesion and thereby a safe, healthy and sustainable environment for all. Also responsible for housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government.

Criminal Records Bureau - aims to help public, private and voluntary sector organisations identify candidates who may be unsuitable to work with children and other vulnerable members of society.

Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform - works with a wide range of individuals, groups and organisations to increase UK productivity and competitiveness (the previous function of the Department of Trade and Industry) as well as across government to reduce and remove unnecessary regulation from the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Department for Children, Schools and Families - aims to give children and young people an excellent education and ensure they are happy, healthy, safe and sound.

Department for Culture, Media and Sport - aims to improve the quality of life for all through cultural and sporting activities.  It is responsible for Government policy on the arts, sport, the National Lottery, tourism, libraries, museums and galleries, broadcasting, film, the music industry, press freedom and regulation, licensing, gambling and the historic environment.

Department of Health - provides health and social care policy, guidance and publications for NHS and social care professionals.

Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills - aims to produce greater national economic success and social well-being through excellence in adult education, science and innovation.

Department for Work and Pensions - aims is to promote opportunity and independence for all, help individuals achieve their potential through employment and work to end poverty in all its forms.

Directgov - contains a wide range of public service information.

HM Revenue and Customs - is responsible for collecting the bulk of tax revenue as well as paying Tax Credits and Child Benefits

HM Treasury - department responsible for formulating and putting into effect the UK Government's financial and economic policy.

Home Office - the Government department responsible for internal affairs in England and Wales including protecting the public from crime and anti-social behaviour.

Information Commissioner' Office - promotes good information handling practice, enforces data protection and freedom of information legislation, and seeks to influence national and international thinking on privacy and information access issues.

Learning and Skills Council - responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England.

Neighbourhood Renewal Unit - aims to narrow the gap between deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of the country.

Office for National Statistics - UK's home of official statistics, reflecting Britain's economy, population and society at national and local level.

Official Documents - is the official reference facility for Command Papers (including White and Green Papers), House of Commons Papers and key Departmental Papers.

Social Exclusion Task Force - champions the needs of the most disadvantaged members of society within Government and coordinates the Government's drive against social exclusion.

TSO Online Bookshop - the Stationery Office's web service and bookstore.
