Environment, housing and transport

Following the recent changes to partnership arrangments, the ending of the Newcastle Partnership and the setting up of the Wellbeing for Life Board, the Environment, Housing and Transport Delivery Partnership is one of two partnerships that were highlighted for review. The review and strenghening of partnership arrangements in the areas of housing and the environment have not yet happened, however Newcastle CVS will keep voluntary and community groups up to date with any new developments.

Previously the themes of environment, housing and transport were brought together into a single Delivery Partnership of the Newcastle Partnership.  The Delivery Partnership included voluntary and community sector representation and was tasked with creating and sustaining quality places to live and managing environment impact.  These were both priority themes within Newcastle’s Sustainable Community Strategy which provided further detail on what the key issues were that need to be addressed under each theme. It is unlikely that these key overaching themes will have changed substantially and will probably form the focus for any new partnership groups set up to address housing and environmental issues.

The Environment, Housing and Transport Delivery Partnership had a number of sub-partnerships, which offered opportunities for voluntary and community organisations to get directly involved in the work of the Partnership.  Voluntary and community groups in Newcastle provide a range of activities and services under the three themes, which range from supported housing and community transport services to urban farming projects and waste and recycling schemes. The sub-partnerships appear to be subject to the promised review but to enable voluntary and community groups to have a platform to influence activities around the themes of environment, housing and transport Newcastle CVS will continue to organise one-off meetings and events on relevant or emerging matters.

Environment, Housing and Transport sub-partnerships

Newcastle Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan

In 2010 Newcastle City Council published its first citywide climate change strategy and action plan.  As part of the consultation on the strategy and action plan Newcastle CVS hosted a focus group session in August 2010.
