You are here: Home > Projects > Regeneration RegenerationThe Regeneration Project was set up in January 1998, and its main purpose is to support and promote the voluntary sector’s involvement in the regeneration activity in the city. Every year decisions are made and millions of pounds are spent in Newcastle on regeneration and it is the project’s aim to ensure that the voluntary sector’s voice is heard from the development of regeneration strategy to delivery of projects and services on the ground. We have a number of ways of achieving our aims: The Regen ForumThe Regen Forum has a membership of almost 300 voluntary groups covering the whole City geographically and with a comprehensive range of activity, purpose and size. For more information about the Regen Forum, click here. re:gen Newsletterre:gen, produced quarterly, aims to keep the sector informed of all matters relevant to regeneration. This includes information about funding streams, regeneration strategies and plans, the activities of regeneration partnerships, best practice and news from the city, region and across the country. Click here to read current and back issues of the re:gen newsletter. RepresentationWe support representatives drawn from NCVS and Regen Forum membership. They sit on a variety of partnerships including the Newcastle Partnership and its many sub groups. Development WorkWe develop and promote the role of the voluntary sector in policy and strategy making processes. Examples include European Funding and Newcastle's Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Area Agreement. InformationWe regularly provide information to the sector on regeneration and policy issues via the re:gen newsletter and Regen Forum mailing lists, but we can also give information on a one-to-one basis by telephone, email or meetings by appointment. You can contact us by phone on 0191 232 7445, by email regen@cvsnewcastle.org.uk or by post to Regeneration Project, NCVS, MEA House, Ellison Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8XS.
EmployabilityEmployability is about overcoming barriers to work amongst disadvantaged communities. This agenda will dominate regeneration spending over the next few years. The Regen Forum has created a reference group to ensure voluntary and community sector involvement in this work and earlier this year produced a research report "The Journey into Participation and Work" which analyses the voluntary sector contribution to this agenda. The report looks at the barriers faced by social groups most likely to be workless and how voluntary sector action can enable people to move back into work. For more information about the reference group email Roger Mould.
